The most expensive ranch in Montana history was sold in 2021. The Climbing Arrow Ranch spans approximately 80,000 acres in four southwest Montana counties(
Gallatin, Madison, Broadwater and Meagher counties).
The sale price and buyers were not disclosed. The list price for the Climbing Arrow Ranch was $136.25 Million.
Broken O Ranch(124,000 acres) List Price: $132.5 Million (2012)
Encompassing 124,000 acres the Broken O Ranch is one of the most significant ranches in the Rocky Mountain West. The Broken O Ranch is spread across Lewis & Clark, Cascade, and Teton Counties. Over 20 miles of the Sun River flow through the heart of the ranch, providing prime irrigation benefits as well as amazing recreational assets. The Broken O Ranch is the largest irrigated farm in the state of Montana, boasting extensive water rights. The ranch produces 700,000 bushels of small-grain crops and 25,000 tons of alfalfa hay annually. Livestock includes 3,500 “mother” cows, 800 replacement heifers and 175 range bulls. The ranch has a 10,000-square-foot main house that overlooks the river and the Rocky Mountains. It has an indoor swimming pool. Recreational activities on the sprawling compound include trout fishing, hunting and wildlife viewing.
N Bar Ranch(51,409 acres) List Price: $45 Million(2011)
Tom Siebel sold Montana’s iconic N Bar Ranch, 62,091 contiguous acres in the Snowy Mountains. The buyer was Wilks Ranches(a Texas limited partnership principally owned by Dan and Farris Wilks). Wilks Ranches expanded the N Bar Ranch, and it now spans over 300,000 acres.
